Here we are and we are safe. I can't believe it is already September 20th. I feel like a week of my life was just blown away. But God is good and we are back in our home safe and sound with power. Here is a recap of our week(this is really just so I won't forget this week, you may not want to read every detail of our storm story):
Thursday the 11th: I took Robby to school and spent the morning getting errands done and casually decided to got to the grocery store. I thought "I will just run in Randall's and get a few fresh fruits and veggies and some stuff to grill out in case we did not have power for a few hours". When I walked in it was like mass hysteria. Lines so long that someone had to direct traffic and the panic in the store made me start feeling a little nervous. But I kept thinking...we are so far from the coast....we should be fine. Then Brian's work sent him home around 4 to beat the traffic and gave him the day off Friday.
Friday the 12th: With Brian home we spent the morning cleaning off our back porch and "preparing" for the storm. I am still thinking, "What is the worst thing that could happen: we could be with our power for a few hours, maybe a day? Surely between my mom and Brian's parents one of us will have power." So we went to bed with Robby in our room and hoped for the best. It was a very long night. The storm started roaring around 1:00 am and then the power out at 3:00 am. Robby did fine except he would wake up and ask "what is that noise?" (the rain on the window.) And it rained and rained and the wind roared for 12 hours straight.( except a small hour break when the eye went over us)
Saturday the 13th: Okay so I was wrong. It was a big storm and it did make it's way this far north. The eye of the storm passed over us almost directly. We had no power on Saturday and I began to try and decide what to salvage from the fridge. I bought too much food on Thursday and was sad I had to start throwing it away. It quit raining about 3:00 pm. And we were glad for a break. It was extremely humid. I felt like I couldn't breathe. We were able to cook out some burgers and sat outside and ate dinner.
Robby was very cute all day about the power being out. I had warned him the night before what that would be like and he seemed content without TV and air conditioning. But he kept saying, "It's dark, turn the lights on in here", or "I can't see" and "We don't have power, right?" While we were eating outside we( Robby and I) literally raised our hands and prayed for power. Just a few minutes later my mom called and said she had power at her house so we packed up (dogs and all) and headed to Sugar Land.
The rest of the story is just a week of being up in the air about getting power at our house, or running out of gasoline, or will the grocery store have food. ( We never starved or ran out of gas. but the threat was always there.)
We are so thankful to my mom for letting us stay a whole week at her house and we pray for all those who still don't have power and have lost their homes and are struggling.
Like I said we are just happy to be home!
